Legacy Vacation Resort – Indian Shores Wins Sustainability Award in Tampa

Property Honored for Efforts in Environmental and Social Impact Programs

May 23, 2019

Last night, Legacy Vacation Resorts – Indian Shores was delighted to be a recipient of a Sustainable Business Award in the tourism category on behalf of The Sustany® Foundation. Based in Tampa, the Foundation is a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainability on a local level and supports innovative community programs that preserve our unique environment, improve human health, foster collaborative learning, and promote economic prosperity in Tampa Bay.

This was the 11th year for the Foundation’s hallmark event, which honors companies and organizations in the Tampa area that embrace a triple bottom line approach to business, examining their impact and benefit on people, profit and the planet. Since 2008, more than 100 businesses have received a Sustainable Business Award for their commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.

As part of the nomination process, local companies were asked to submit an application in which they describe their efforts in the three main categories of people (social responsibility), planet (environmental stewardship) and profit (economic impact). The applications include questions about energy use, recycling, community programs, ESG investing, diversity and inclusion and more.

LVR Indian Shores excelled in all categories thanks to their commitment to environmental and social programs. The recently Certified B Corporation and 1% For the Planet member offers a multitude of initiatives dedicated to people and the planet. Among them – carbon offsets for guest reservations, electric vehicle chargers, recycling programs for guest waste and used amenities, energy efficient appliances and green renovation projects. The Indian Shores property also takes the community’s well-being to heart, seeking first to utilize products and services from local suppliers whenever possible. Internally, the company encourages employees to practice sustainability in their everyday lives and most importantly, strive to be the best version of themselves every day. This means encouraging them to go out and volunteer in the community and in 2018, LVR created a “Day of Hope” which gives employees the opportunity to receive paid time off in pursuit of volunteer activities.

Located on the sparkling intracoastal waters on the gulf coast of Florida, this recently renovated property offers villa-style accommodations, sun deck and fishing dock, BBQ area, boast slips and beach access just a short walk away. Additional renovations to the pool and lobby are set to be completed this summer.

As part of the bigger picture towards their sustainability goals, LVR co-created the Florida for Good program. With its entrepreneurial spirit, Florida For Good is the connector between B Corps, Conscious Capitalism, 1% For The Planet, like minded organizations/networks, governments/chambers, academia, and the localized For Good ecosystems throughout the state. The local chapter, St. Pete for Good, helps further their mission in the Tampa Bay region and provides support for events, offers a free online business directory of like-minded companies and provides resources such as the free impact assessment.
