Each year, more than 60 of the best antique, vintage and classic boats in North America compete in specialized classes for top honors and bragging rights. The meticulously restored boats include historic lakers and launches, some dating back to 1915; pre and post-WWII racers and runabouts; utility boats and flashy Rivas.
Obexer’s Boat Company, home of the first wooden boat dealership on Lake Tahoe, will be the site of the annual event and is located on the West shore of Lake Tahoe. Anyone who appreciates the beauty and art of restoration should attend. You will be rewarded with the largest gathering of these powerful and pristine watercraft.

Celebrating 56 years in historic Virginia City!
This hilarious annual affair dates back to the late 1950s when the Territorial Enterprise, the Virginia City newspaper where Mark Twain once worked, published a farce about racing camels in Virginia City. When the San Francisco Chronicle appeared with camels ready to take on the challenge, the tradition was born. Each year, jockeys maneuver camels, ostriches and zebras as they race around the track in historic Virginia City. All the while, thousands of spectators are cheering them on and laughing the whole time. After the races each day, join the Camel Hump to C Street where thirsty camels have been known to duck into a bar or two.

It’s the World’s Largest FREE hot-air ballooning event and worth the wake!
The 34th annual Great Reno Balloon Race attracts nearly 100 balloons and 16 special shapes and is one of Reno’s most colorful and spectacular events. Sure, it might be a bit earlier than you’re used to waking up, but you won’t regret it for moment!
Activities include a Glow Show and Dawn Patrol which are an amazing pre-dawn spectacle as balloons twinkle against the dark sky. In the incredible mass ascension, the skies fill with colorful balloons. Special-shaped balloons are always a spectator favorite and some will be making their first appearance at the festival this year. On Friday, is the SUPER-GLOW show featuring glowing balloons choreographed to music. Balloon Boulevard will feature a variety of food, crafts, art and souvenirs and is expected to double in size of vendors!
The Balloon Race has won many awards over the years including ‘Best Special Event in Reno’ and ‘Best Special Event in Northern Nevada.’

The 13th annual ride provides an opportunity to cycle around 72 miles of Lake Tahoe’s shoreline, including an 800-foot climb overlooking scenic Emerald Bay and a 1,000-foot climb to Spooner Junction. The scenery is spectacular and the event offers great food and participant support stations.
The 72 mile ride is recommended for conditioned recreational bicyclists, not for beginners. Participants must be at least 14 years of age (no children, please) and must be experienced in riding roadways.
For the recreational bicyclist who would like to mix sightseeing and bicycling, the Boat Cruise & 35-mile Lake Tahoe Half Ride Fun Tour is offered.

The 52nd annual event is the only closed course pylon racing event in the world, and is the world’s longest running air race. Besides the on-your-feet action of the races, spectators have close-up access to racing aircraft, pilots and crews in the “pits.” There’s a world-class air show, military display and demonstrations, aircraft display and great concessions. The inaugural CrossReno is a USA Cycling sanctioned cyclocross event that is expected to attract more than 400 nationally and internationally ranked professional cyclists and elite amateur cyclists. But it’s not just a race offering national ranking, it’s also a festival featuring live music, food trucks, a beer garden, a retail expo, and a free kids skills and riding clinic, hosted by the Reno-Tahoe Junior Cycling.
The event will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, which will also be hosting family-friendly activities throughout the day.

With over 8,000 feet of climbing on the bike course, added to the challenges of a 2.4-mile swim and marathon, IRONMAN Lake Tahoe is arguably the world’s toughest course. Do all of that at 6,000 feet of altitude, and you’ll join a select group of IRONMAN finishers.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Snaffle Bit Futurity is a modern showcase for the time-honored vaquero horse training methods of the American West. This grueling triathlon for young reined cow horse tests the skills of 3-year-old equine athletes in herd work, rein work and fence work. Horses and riders chase their share of more than $1.1 million total purse.
The event also includes an enormous “Best of the West” trade show (a great opportunity for some early holiday shopping), the popular Snaffle Bit Futurity Horse sales, and the annual NRCHA Hall of Fame Banquet.

The annual Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire has earned a reputation for quality artists and crafters. Over 300 vendors are selected for their quality product and unique wares. There’s not only great craft shopping, but delicious homemade candy and food as well. The Candy Dance tradition started in 1919 when the community’s women sold homemade candy and served midnight supper during a dance at the Town Hall, raising funds for the purchase and maintenance of Genoa’s streetlights. Ninety-four years later and it’s still going strong!
